THE SABRE-TOOTHED TIGER

Burkina Faso and no end? It seems so. Just after the announcement that the follower of the famous Sabre-Toothed Tiger coins of 2013 will be the Mammoth in 2015, the long sought-after Sabre-Tooth Commemorative Sets hit the market.

There are two strongly limited official sets, one containing both the one ounce coins depicting the Smilodon mother and the cub, the other both the four ounce coins. Both sets contain a special issue made of one ounce fine silver depicting a mammoth on the reverse common for all pieces of this Prehistoric Animals series and another Smilodon on the obverse. These issues are only available with the commemorative sets. The limitation of the sets is very low – 99 pieces exist of the one ounce set, and only 49 of the four ounce set. Sure they will not be on the market for long.

The Smilodon turned out to be such a succesful topic that the one and four ounce coins were quickly followed by coins of 1 and of 3 kilogram with different motifs. Especially on this heavyweights one can marvel at the eyes of the predator cats, for those is used a special technique to make the impression of real eyes looking straight at the collector.

Now the gap is filled between the little and the big ones. There is a 10 ounce coin too, depicting two Smilodon cubs. The fine silver coin with real eye effect and antique finish surface is struck only 150 times and will be out on the market in this year's summer. So now there is a Smilodon for every purse. You will see below the complete listing of the Smilodon project along with the pictures of the coins. I hope I will be able to announce the issuing of the first of the mammoth coins very soon.

DER SÄBELZAHNTIGER

Burkina Faso und kein Ende? So scheint es. Kurz nach der Ankündigung, dass der Nachfolger der berühmten Säbelzahnkatzen von 2013 dieses Jahr das Mammut sein wird, tauchten endlich die lang ersehnten Smilodon-Münzsets auf dem Markt auf.

Es gibt zwei streng limitierte Sammlereditionen; die eine enthält die beiden Unzen, die andere die beiden Vier-Unzen-Münzen. Beide Boxen enthalten auch eine Sonderprägung von einer Unze Feinsilber; sie zeigt auf einer Seite ein Mammut als Wappentier der gesamten Serie „Prähistorische Tiere“, auf der anderen wiederum ein Smilodon. Diese Prägungen sind nur mit den Boxen erhältlich. Die Limitierung ist sehr niedrig – 99 Stück gibt es vom Unzen-Set, und nur 49 von dem Vier-Unzen-Set. Sehr lange werden diese Boxen also nicht auf dem Markt erhältlich sein.

Das Smilodon entpuppte sich als so erfolgreich, dass die Ein- und Vierunzer recht schnell Gesellschaft bekamen von Münzen im Gewicht von 1 und von 3 Kilogramm mit anderen Säbelzahntigermotiven. Vor allem an diesen Schwergewichten kann man die Augen der Raubkatzen bewundern, die in einer speziellen Technik hergestellt wurden, um den Eindruck echter, auf den Betrachter gerichteter Augen zu erzeugen.

Nun ist auch die Lücke zwischen den kleinen und den großen Münzen gefüllt. Es gibt eine 10-Unzen-Münze, die zwei Smilodon-Welpen zeigt. Die Feinsilbermünze mit Real Eye Effect und Antique finish-Oberfläche ist nur 150 Mal geprägt worden und wird diesen Sommer auf dem Markt erscheinen. So gibt es jetzt einen Säbelzahntiger für jede Geldbörse. Weiter unten gibt es eine Auflistung aller Münzen des Smilodon-Projektes und Bilder der Münzen. Und ich hoffe bald das Erscheinen der ersten Mammut-Münze ankündigen zu können.
