LET MY PEOPLE GO!
Several times Moses faced the Pharaoh of Egypt
with his categorical demand: „Let my people go!“ But the Pharaoh
was unwilling to let go the people of Israel, which had to work hard
for the Egyptians. And so God had to send the Ten Plagues over Egypt
and Moses had to part the Red Sea, before the Israelites could
eventually win their freedom.
This is the way the Bible tells us the story,
and some Hollywood movies retold the topic in monumental pictures.
The story about the Exodus out of Egypt is one of the most well-known
from the Old Testament, and as well for the jewish as for the
christian religion one of the most important, for it culminated into
the revelation of the Ten Commandments and the conquest of the
Promised Land with it's holy centre – Jerusalem. No wonder, then,
if the african country Burkina Faso begins it's series of coins on
biblical themes with this certain event and issues even three coins
to show the fateful encounter of Moses and the Pharaoh.
The silver coins with their handmade antique
finish patina have a weight of 1 ounce, 5 ounces and 3 kilogram. The
high, plastically worked out relief shows the Pharaoh with the
insignias of his power, and next to him Moses in his modest clothing,
who only with confidence in the power of God withstand the pride and
the arrogance of the mighty king.
A part of the biblical text, next to another
picture of Moses, is to find on the tiny nano chip which is worked
into the coins. These chips, high tech products of the computer age,
on which one can write on a surface of 5 x 5 millimeters hundreds of
book pages, not with laser, but through shooting with electrons, only
melt at temperatures high than thousand degrees Celsius. These chips
are able to survive natural disasters, even nuclear wars, and their
life span is almost infinite. Maybe one day they will be the only
media where later generations of mankind or visitors from far away
worlds can find the great works of our literature, in a time when
books and CDs are rotten and vanished.
The chips were manufactured in a high tech plant
in Germany; and responsible for production of the coins is MCI Mint,
a company from Germany too.
If the chip on the Exodus coin only shows a part
from the Bible, the one on another coin presents the whole of the
Holy Script. But only people who have access to a powerful microscope
can read the almost thousand pages. The coin, also issued by Burkina
Faso, with a weight of one ounce of fine silver, minted in proof
quality, shows on it's reverse Moses, this time with the tablets in
hand on which are engraved the Ten Commandments.
Not only the words of God, even the words of
William Shakespeare meanwhile are available on a nano chip. Already
2014 the Republic of Benin issued three coins to commemorate the
450th birthday of the english playwright, which were shown to public
at the World Money Fair in Berlin in January/February 2015. To
celebrate the birthday of Shakespeare worthily one singled out his
perhaps most popular play – Romeo and Juliet. And as one might
expect it was the famous balcony scene which served as a model for
the engraver. The complete play, together with a picture of the poet,
was inscribed on the nano chip. These coins exist in three different
weights – 1 ounce, 5 ounces and 1 kilogram. The motif on all these
coins are the same, the surface is antique finish and partially
colored.

Mehrmals
trat Moses vor den Pharao Ägyptens mit der kategorischen Forderung
„Lass mein Volk ziehen!“ Aber der Pharao war alles andere als
gewillt, das Volk Israel ziehen zu lassen, welches schwere Fronarbeit
für die Ägypter verrichtete. So musste Gott erst die Zehn Plagen
über Ägypten kommen lassen und Moses das Rote Meer teilen, bevor
die Israeliten ihre Freiheit gewinnen konnten.
So
erzählt es uns die Bibel, und manche Hollywood-Verfilmung erzählte
den Stoff bildgewaltig nach. Die Geschichte um den Exodus aus Ägypten
ist eine der bekanntesten und sowohl für die jüdische als auch die
christliche Religion eine der wichtigsten Geschichten aus dem Alten
Testament, gipfelt sie doch in der Offenbarung der Zehn Gebote und
der Inbesitznahme des Gelobten Landes mit seinem heiligen Zentrum –
Jerusalem. Kein Wunder also, wenn das afrikanische Land Burkina Faso
seine Serie von Münzen zu biblischen Themen gerade mit diesem
Ereignis beginnt und 2015 gleich drei Münzen ausgibt, welche die
schicksalhafte Begegnung zwischen Moses und dem Pharao zeigen.
Die
Silbermünzen mit einer teilweise in Handarbeit gefertigten Patina,
dem Antique finish, gibt es im Gewicht von 1 Unze, 5 Unzen und 3
Kilogramm. Das hohe, sehr plastisch ausgearbeitete Münzrelief zeigt
den Pharao mit den Insignien seiner Macht und neben ihm Moses, in
seiner bescheidenen Kleidung, der einzig im Vertrauen auf die Macht
Gottes dem Stolz und der Überheblichkeit des Herrschers trotzt.
Ein
Auszug aus dem biblischen Text, neben einer weiteren Darstellung des
Moses, findet sich auf dem winzigen Nano-Chip, mit dem die Münzen
versehen sind. Diese Chips, High-Tech-Produkte des
Computerzeitalters, wo auf einer Fläche von 5 x 5 Millimetern
Hunderte von Buchseiten, nicht durch Lasertechnik, sondern durch den
Beschuss mit Elektronen, geschrieben werden können, schmelzen erst
bei extrem hohen Temperaturen über 1.000° Celsius. Die Chips können
Naturkatastrophen, sogar Atomkriege, überstehen und haben eine
schier unbegrenzte Lebensdauer. Vielleicht sind sie eines Tages das
einzige Medium, wenn Bücher und CDs verschwunden und verrottet sind,
auf welchen spätere Generationen von Menschen oder Besucher ferner
Welten die großen Werke unserer Literatur noch finden werden.
Die
Chips stammen aus einer deutschen High-Tech-Schmiede. Und für die
Produktion der Münzen zeichnet die MCI Mint, ein ebenfalls in
Deutschland angesiedeltes Unternehmen, verantwortlich.
Ist
der Chip auf der Exodus-Münze nur mit einem Auszug aus der Bibel
beschrieben, präsentiert er sich auf einer anderen Münze mit der
kompletten Heiligen Schrift. Allerdings können nur Leute mit einem
entsprechend starken Mikroskop die knapp tausend Seiten entziffern.
Die ebenfalls von Burkina Faso verausgabte Bibel-Münze mit einem
Gewicht von einer Unze Feinsilber in der höchsten Prägequalität
Polierte Platte zeigt auf ihrer Bildseite Moses mit den Tafeln, auf
welchen die Zehn Gebote eingemeißelt sind.
Nicht
nur Gottes Wort, auch William Shakespeare hat es inzwischen auf einen
solchen Chip geschafft. Schon 2014 gab Benin drei Münzen zum 450.
Geburtstag des englischen Dramatikers heraus, die auf der World Money
Fair im Januar/Februar 2015 der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert wurden.
Um Shakespeares Geburtstag gebührend zu würdigen, wählte man als
Münzmotiv sein wohl beliebtestes Stück aus – Romeo und Julia. Und
wie nicht anders zu erwarten ist es die berühmte Balkonszene, die
dem Graveur als Vorlage diente. Das komplette Stück, zusammen mit
einem Bild des Dichters, findet sich auf dem Nano-Chip. Es gibt die
Münze in drei verschiedenen Gewichtsklassen – 1 Unze, 5 Unzen und
1 Kilo Feinsilber. Die Münzen sind motivgleich, mit Antique
finish-Oberfläche und teilweise koloriert.
